Nepal Flood Relief

On 25–26 August, a flash flood tore down the Bhote Koshi river through Rasuwa district. The foundation is raising funds for relief.

The situation, as of 26 August 2026

There was no storm

High above the Bhote Koshi on the Nepal–China border, an ice-rock avalanche is believed to have dammed the river and then released it all at once. The surge reached Timure, the Rasuwagadhi border crossing and Syaphrubesi without rain and without warning, then ran on downstream into Nuwakot.

At least 95 people are confirmed dead and hundreds more are missing, among them police personnel stationed at the border and travellers who were crossing when the water came. The Miteri bridge at Rasuwagadhi is gone, villages along the corridor have been swept through, and around 430 megawatts of the country's electricity generation is out of service. Search and rescue continues by helicopter where the roads no longer exist.

How this foundation works in Nepal

Since 2017 the foundation's projects in Nepal have been carried out in person: supplies brought from the DMV by hand and handed over directly, work built alongside the people it serves. When Kathmandu's infrastructure was strained in 2025, our founder was on the ground moving necessities to where they were needed. Relief for this flood will run the same way.

If you can help in another way — logistics, contacts in Nepal, a matching gift from your employer — tell us through the volunteer form and we will be in touch.

Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund

The Government of Nepal's own relief fund, which takes donations from abroad directly. It reaches the national relief effort rather than the foundation, and the foundation has no part in how it is spent.

Give to the national fund

The relief fund is the foundation's general fund, earmarked for this appeal. It is not a separate legal entity.
